Diagnosing lungworm infection

Together with the veterinarians of seal rescue centre A Seal we developed an AI system that recognises lungworm infections in seals at rescue centres and determines their stage, based on clinical parameters and image data.

Lungworm infections are a serious threat to seals in rescue centres. The earlier an infection shows up, the better the odds that treatment works, but traditional diagnostic methods are time-consuming and demand considerable expertise. Our AI system supports veterinarians in making fast, accurate diagnoses.

The system analyses clinical parameters and image data to:

  • recognise the early symptoms of a lungworm infection
  • determine the stage of the infection
  • track how the disease progresses
  • assess whether a treatment is working

That lets the vet step in earlier, tailor treatment to the individual animal, and spend time on the cases that need judgement rather than on working through every sample.
